Front view of the GM68 with tinted visor closed
So I received my new helmet back on the seventh, it’s the GM68 by Gmax. Let me tell you now that I've had a chance to use it for a while, this helmet ROCKS!

WebBikeWorld named this helmet their “helmet of the year” for 2007, and I can understand why. The helmet I received is one of Gmax’s 2008 models. The only difference is that this helmet comes in a solid flat-black, rather than with decals. Other than that this is the same great helmet as last year.
Before I picked up this helmet, I owned an AFX FX-96. For the price it was an OK helmet, but a $75 helmet leaves a lot to be wanting. Well the GM-68 is a $107 helmet, but you get a $300 helmet in terms of features and comfort.
The fit and finish on this helmet, both inside and out is incredible. The helmet is very comfortable. The padding is so soft and thick, it feels like you’re sliding your head into a feather pillow. There are no hard spots or presure points. The helmet provides even, soft pressure all around without pressing anywhere too hard. That’s saying a lot coming from me. My head is right between most helmets. My noggin averages at 59.5 CM. That typically right between a medium or a large. most helmets I try on are either too small or too large to really feel “perfect” the thick soft padding in the size large Gmax I picked up makes up for any oddities my skull shape has.

Living in Florida one of the biggest features of any helmet for me (after saftey) is how much air can the helmet flow. Well the GM-68 flows an awesome amount of air. You can really feel the cool air circulate across the top of your head and out the back. This isn’t air sneaking in from the bottom, or around the visor; this is the vents doing what they are supposed to do.
With so many other helmets, you can see the vents on the outside, but it’s not clear where that air gets to on the inside. With the GM-68, the inside looks like a bicycle helmet. It is very obvious where the air is going and how it will flow around your head. Without any extra fabric between the airflow and your head, you really feel the heat get wicked away at any speed over 30 MPH.
Beyond the multiple large vents and gorgeous visors, the GM-68 has one more great feature. It has an LED light integrated into the air-scoop in the back of the helmet.
It has four states:
- Off
- Steady on
- Slow blink
- and Fast blink
Living in Florida - the retirement capital of America - I feel better having any extra features I can get that might get me noticed by an old blue-haired cager. As you can see, even with the LEDs in the back, they really don't take away from the design at all.
The Gmax helmet currently comes with two visors: one clear, and one tinted. Both are unbelievably clear and distortion free. I wear eye-glasses, and the visors are more clear than my glasses are. They are that good. The helmet also comes with a very nice, soft helmet bag, and a separate sleeve/bag for the spare visor. The LED strip also gets a second, tinted cover in addition to the stock red cover. Gmax even gives you an extra pair of batteries for the LEDs!

I could go on and on about this helmet, but I’ll save you the time reading all of that. This helmet is a steal at $107. It has features that $300 helmets only wished they had. If you’re in the market for a new helmet, you absolutely must check the Gmax GM-68 out. You won’t regret it.

Oops...
Looks like I have a bug in some of my CSS. Sorry for the messy layout with those pics. I'm working on fixing that.
RE: Oops...
Well, I've made progress with the CSS for the images. I'm still not thrilled with the results, but it's a helluva lot better than it was.
