One of our favorite sites on the web – Custom Fighters – is undertaking a really cool project for charity. It is a collaborative build where all the members of Custom Fighters contribute resources to build a custom streetfighter which will be auctioned off for charity.
From the site:
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital & The National Motorcycle Safety Fund.
If you would like to get involved, there are several ways you can help:
- You can donate money that will be used to build the streetfighter
- You can donate parts / services for the streetfighter build
- You can buy a Custom Fighters T-shirt - $2 from every shirt sold in April will be donated to the build!
Members of the forum are making contributions in three primary ways – and often in a combination of those ways. Members can contribute to the build by contributing money to aid in buying parts and components or paying for professional services which the members can not do themselves. Members can also contribute parts and components that they have or can fabricate that will be compatible with the rest of the bike. And finally, members can contribute their time; either in planning and logistics, labor on the build, prototyping and design of the motorcycle and components, and in transporting and promoting the streetfighter when it is complete and before it is auctioned. Many of the members at Custom Fighters have made combination donations of both money or parts and their time.
Their goal is to raise $5,000 for the build. This money will be used to construct the custom motorcycle. Once the streetfighter motorcycle is complete, members of Custom Fighters will promote the bike and following auction at several motorcycle shows and events. Their hopes are that by first promoting the motorcycle they can raise more money for the donation during the auction than the original value that was contributed by their members.
Many details related to the build are still being voted upon; though, I can state that the build will be based upon a Suzuki GSXR frame and engine. Since all of the members of Custom Fighters are making the decisions via polls and contributions, certain decisions will take some time to be completed. I encourage you to frequent the forum to monitor the process and progress.
I've attached a downloadable PDF of the press release for this charity build to this post, so you can download it and pass it along.
